Celebrate India in NYC this Weekend!
On Sunday, August 21st, the Empire State Building will be turning green white and orange, the color of India’s flag. That’s because it’s time once again for the India Day Parade, a yearly event taking place on lower Madison Avenue, one that allows even the most jaded New Yorkers to don their marigold-tinted glasses!
In its 31st year, Sunday’s parade will feature Grand Marshall Bollywood diva Rani Mukherjee (hope she still spells her name this way, she changes it almost yearly), as well as the President of the Republic of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, along with many surprise guests.
There will be food, fun and loads of Indian pride on display in Madison Park on Sunday from noon to about 6 p.m., that’s for sure!
While the parade is guaranteed to fill up your day, the evening belongs to alternative Indian cinema star Abhay Deol and a special screening of his latest film, Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara at Big Cinemas in Manhattan. The event is part of movie platform Mela‘s launch in the US, and they are offering two tix to the screening, plus a one-year subscription to their DVDs, TV channels and online services for $99. If you like Indian cinema, and I don’t mean just Bollywood, you’ll LOVE Mela.
Not a bad way to end the day, having cocktails with Deol, while watching him sizzle up the screen along with Farhan Akhtar and Hrithik Roshan. The evening kicks off at 6.30 with drinks and some insight from Deol, who’s always a pleasure to listen to. Click here for TICKETS. N-joy!
