I’ll Have the Freedom Meal, Please…

Felt absolutely overwhelmed, emotionally drained and very, very vulnerable after watching Jafar Panahi’s This Is Not a Film today. Writing about it will turn out to be one of the most difficult things I will ever do. I can just tell. Sometimes, when a film touches me so deeply, it is nearly impossible to put those feelings into words. I’ll try, of course, but it will be a hard weekend for me… Hoping the Oscars will provide some entertainment and a lot of inspiration.

Anyway, coming home from the press screening, I needed something to remind me of where I am, the freedom to decide what I want to do and when, and nothing said “American Democracy” to me like a McDonald’s meal. I do this maybe twice a year, sometimes less than that. I stop into a Micky-D for a McChicken sandwich and some McFries. Today, that choice meant freedom to me, absolute undeniable freedom. So here’s a photo of my democracy meal, in all its splendor. My inspiration? My long lost newly found friend of course, who shall remain nameless to protect her identity, and who got me hooked on taking photos of my most memorable bites. Hers are much prettier of course, but this one was one of my first tries…

Stay tuned for my piece on Panahi’s latest and remember, don’t take your own freedom for granted!
