Kanwal’s Healthy Corner – Portobello Pizza

Last night for dinner I wanted to make a pizza, but not the ordinary doughy crust type of pizza. I decided to make my Portobello Pizzas. A different, much healthier take on pizza, I used Portobello mushrooms as my ‘crust’ and filled this with spaghetti sauce, mozzarella and turkey sausage and the result was a delicious, healthy, satisfying meal! The Portobello mushroom adds great texture and meatiness to your pizza. I’ve also made this recipe in the past using different toppings such as thinly sliced red onion and olives. However you top this pizza, you cannot go wrong in great flavors! Pair this up with a salad and you’ve got yourself a great meal.

  • 2 Portobello mushrooms, stems removed
  • 3 fresh mini mozzarella balls, sliced
  • 1 veggie turkey sausage (I use Morning Star), sliced
  • 1/4c. Spaghetti sauce
  • 1 tb. of Italian seasoning

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

Evenly distribute the spaghetti sauce on both mushrooms (the gill side). Evenly distribute the sliced mozzarella and sausage onto both mushrooms. Add the Italian seasoning to both mushrooms.

Place the mushroom pizza in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese has melted. Enjoy!
